Samsung releases a surprisingly large amount of different devices every year. Along with its flagship S series of smartphones, even more tablets, phablets, and wearables expand the tech giant's robust product line with every coming season.

The recently released Galaxy S8 and S8+ are likely to be Samsung's most popular smartphones this year. Equipped with Nougat, the latest version of the Android OS, the S8 and S8 feature 8 megapixel autofocus front cameras, 12 megapixel rear cameras, the Octa Core 2.35Ghz processor, and a battery life of up to four days.

Perhaps the closest Galaxy S8 competitor, the Apple iPhone 8, won't be released until later this fall. Until then, we've got a long list of new Samsung devices to analyze and rank. Here are our favorite five so far this year:

Samsung Galaxy J3

Released in early 2016, the Samsung J3 features a 720 x 1280 pixel Super AMOLED display and still runs under $200. The J3's quad-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity make this device an affordable and capable smartphone, in white, black, or gold.

Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini Prime

The Galaxy J1 Mini Prime packs a lot of power in a little phone. It doesn't run the latest version of Android, but Marshmallow is just as functional for such a small device. Along with the other benefits of the Android OS, the Galaxy J1 Mini Prime is a great device for those who want to stay connected without spending a small fortune.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5

The Galaxy Note 7 left in a hurry after literally exploding onto the scene in 2016, but its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 5, is still an impressive device. Wireless charging and the versatile S Pen are just a few of the visible features of the Galaxy Note 5. The Note series has always been more technologically advanced than Samsung's S series smart phones and the Note 5 is a perfect example.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active

Samsung's Active series is marketed at those who demand more physical durability in a smart phone. The larger shatterproof display and battery is protected in a sealed, waterproof body. If you spend more time outside than in, this is a good device to bring along.

Samsung Galaxy S8+

The latest and most technologically advanced smartphone to come from Samsung, the Galaxy S8+ boasts the all new Infinity Display, lending the device a smooth continuous surface. Security has been improved with the S8 series, which now features an iris scanner. Apart from general improvements to speed and function, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are introducing Samsung users to Bixby, a cloud-based, voice-activated, personal assistant.
