Is It Time to Replace My Phone Screen?

Is It Time to Replace My Phone Screen?

When you think about replacing your screen the first thing that comes to your mind is usually “well the screen isn’t cracked so I’m fine”. But did you know that is not the only sign it might be time to have the screen on your phone fixed?

How to Tell If It’s Time for a New Screen

The most obvious way to tell If you need a screen replacement is if you see any major visible damage. Pro tip: before taking your phone to the repair shop make sure to take off the screen protector to see if the damage is on your phone. It might sound like common knowledge, but you’d be surprised how many people came to me in a panic while I was working at Sprint because they thought they shattered their phone, but it was just the screen protector on top.

If your screen isn’t cracked check your phones display for things like:

  • 1.Delayed haptic feedback.

Play around with your screen a little, open, and close apps, swipe through pictures, anything that requires you to touch the screen a lot. If you notice that your phone is a little slower to respond than normal it’s possible the LCD on your phone is going bad.

  • 2.Lines that aren’t cracks in the glass

At Sprint we would refer to it as the blue line of death, if you see this or any other patterns in your phone’s display it means the LCD is dying and it needs to be replaced.

  • 3.When your screen is fully on but not fully bright.

If even in the best of conditions your phone screen just won’t get bright enough or is blurry in certain parts... you guessed it, it’s time for a new screen.

Not all damage to screens is equal. Sometimes it’s only the digitizer that needs replacing and other times it’s only the LCD. If both are damaged, you can buy both parts as one unit.

How to Tell If I Need to Replace My Digitizer or LCD?

You need to replace your digitizer if:

If only the top panel of your phone (the glass screen) is cracked but the picture underneath isn’t you’ll only need to fix the digitizer.

You need to replace your LCD if:

If the picture under the glass is broken or you’re not able to get your screen to respond to your touch you need to replace your LCD.

When it comes to repairing your screen, you can either do it yourself or take it to a professional, the good news is Group Vertical has all of the parts you’ll need. With knowing what to look for it will be easier to protect the life of your phone. Don’t wait until your screen is completely dead to fix it, see the signs and get it fixed as soon as you are able.
